Junior Classical Leauge (JCL) Offices

Consul

The Consul is the president of Marist JCL. A Consul’s main purpose is to organize the main events of the Marist JCL and to lead Marist JCL meetings. They must set an example with their attitude, enthusiasm, and hard work (especially during the Georgia JCL State Convention).

Aediles

Much like their Roman counterparts, an Aedile’s main concern is with the events of his state. A Marist Aedile’s focus is the big events put on by Marist JCL, such as our Mt. Vesuvius event or our Janus Fest. They are the builders who set up events, and they also help clean up after the event is over, so they are capable of physical labor.

Scriba (Secretary)

The Secretary’s main job is to take minutes of each Marist JCL meeting and to give it to the Webmaster to post on the Marist JCL Website. The Secretary also provides additional notes for the next meeting in order to focus on the upcoming schedule. The Secretary must be a skilled typist who can keep up with the flurry of ideas being discussed during Marist JCL meetings.

Historian

The Historian attends all Marist JCL events to document them through pictures and videos. There are never any pictures of the Historian because they are always taking the pictures! The Historian assists in putting together the Marist JCL Scrapbook for competition in the Georgia JCL State Convention and National JCL State Convention. The Historian also works in tandem with the Marist JCL Webmaster to add pictures of Marist JCL events to the Marist JCL website.

Webmaster

The Webmaster updates the Marist JCL website each month for the National JCL Website contest and helps create the Marist JCL Digital Scrapbook. The Webmaster must also have some knowledge of coding and archiving in order to create and update the Marist JCL website.

Latin Honor Society (LHS) Offices

LHS President

The Latin Honor Society President leads the Latin Honor Society, which is a division of the JCL. Those with an average of 90 or higher throughout their entire Latin career at Marist are inducted into the Latin Honor Society. The LHS President oversees the central events of the LHS, such as the Induction Ceremony and Latin Mass. In addition, the Latin Honor Society President also awards LHS members with folia, or points that encourage members to participate in LHS events. This service includes tutoring other Latin students and helping out with Mythopaloosa. The LHS President is the LHS equivalent of a Co-Consul. This year, there are three LHS Presidents.

LHS Legates

Latin Honor Society Legates assist the Latin Honor Society President with their duties in encouraging other students to participate in more community service events. The Legates also aid the LHS President in tracking folia throughout the year, take notes during LHS meetings, and organize events proposed by the LHS President.
